Consequences for bystander: Nothing except guilty conscious, if that.
" " victim: trauma, maybe leads to ptsd, depression, etc. Has a hard time with relationships, being intimate, trust and more. And all the fun of interviewing and getting evidence collected by hospital and law enforcement.
" " assailant: maybe thrown in jail for short amount of time. Sadly most rape cases dont have enough evidence to prosecute effectively

3-23 SAFE kits.
A rape kit or sexual assault forensic exam (SAFE) kit is done at a hospital. In Maryland it is done at the request of the victim now due to the "Jane Do Law", while before this year it was the police that gave them the go ahead on doing the kit. The SAFE kit is free for the victim, though the medical is not (i.e. treage and any medical help during exam).
"For a sexual assault evidence collection kit to be the most useful the victim should go to the hospital immediately following the attack. Changing clothes or bathing may result in destroying viable evidence. It is a victim's right to refuse to participate in any part of the evidence collection process, regardless of what stage the procedure is in. However, a sexual assault kit is the victim's best way to document the attack and help ensure prosecution of the attacker. The victim's informed consent is necessary for a kit to be used. This evidence retrieval and exam could take up to four hours to complete."--> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_kit

2-23 situation that sexual violence could happen
1. Party with alcohol
Few friends are drinking having a good time. One of which is a little more drunk than the rest of them. Her friend leads her back to her room and even though she says "no" she can't fully fight back due to the intoxication and he takes advantage of her. The next morning she doesn't fully know what happened because she was blacked out.
2. Close friend/ boyfriend/girlfriend, guilt you into sex/ take advantage
After dating several months the boyfriend (or g/f) could start trying to manipulate the other to have sex even if they are not ready/dont want to. After a while the other could just stop saying no, but yet there isnt consent for it. The aggressor takes advantage of this and sexually assaults their g/f or b/f. Though this is more grey than some other seinarios the aggresor is still taking advantage/ forcefully having the sex, but this method is more mental than physical force.
3. (less likely) Stranger forcefully raping someone walking by.
The seneario we all know from TV but is the rarest form of sexual violence. The stalker from town that we dont know is following us. Then jump us when we are not expecting it and forcefully rapes us.
4. Friend or aquantance just forcing rape.
You meet up with a person you knind of know from class or through friends. He or she forcefully (with violence) rapes you. This could also include a weapon of some kind. This is also less likely than the first two.

2-16 Bystander syndrome
Bystander syndrome is when a person or a group of people are witnesses to something, and dont do anything. The reasons for this is because of: public humiliation, fear of violence/ getting hurt, and "some one else's problem." People now are trying to train people in "Bystander intervention." This is where a person/ group of people stand up and help a person in trouble.
There are 4 things that you need to to help someone.
1. assess the problem.
2. make a call whether or not it is an emergancy and needs help
3. assume responsiblity
4. go help/ get help
http://www.uwlax.edu/faculty/cerbin/ls/PSY%20Research%20Lesson%20Model%20of%20Bystander%20Intervention.htm
Senerio:
Boyfriend and girlfriend are having a comfertation during a party. The boyfriend is getting verbaly abusive and the voices are escilating. Soon he yanks her arm as he head for the door mummbling something about how she is going to have to make up for her behavior with a sexual favor as she fights him trying to get free.
Dioloage 1:
Bystander walks up to boyfriend right before the physical abuse starts.
Byst: "Hey man, hows it going?"
B/f: "Don't you see I'm busy here talking to my girl"
Byst: "Sorry man, I'll go"
Dioloage 2:
Bystander walks up to boyfriend right before the physical abuse starts.
Byst: "Hey man, whats up?"
B/f: "Don't you see I'm busy talking to my girl"
Byst: "Yea man, the whole party could hear you. It's not right how you treat her."
B/f: "Yea?! What you going to do about it"
Bystander pulls the girlfriend away saying shes going to be safe; the boyfriend tries to attack the bystander but is intercepted by several friends. He quickly gives up and leaves the party.

2-11 Who is a victim
The stereotype of a victim of sexual assaults are those who either: a) asking for it or b) weak and just don't say no.
Fictional Story:
So I don't get around very well. I need a wheel chair most of the time because of my condition, though sometimes I use leg braces and crutches when I need to go up and down stairs. Oh I'm sorry, I did not introduce myself yet, my name is Taylor and this is my story of when I was sexually assaulted on an overnight organization trip.
I was out with several of the people I went with drinking and having a good time. Some of the other kids from other colleges who were attending the same event joined us. I drank quite a bit, I can't remember how much exactly, but it was at least 7 hard drinks maybe more. My friends were helping me to my floor, because I had to use my crutches to go up the stairs since the damn elevators were down for repair. Once we got to my floor in the stairwell I told them that I was alright and they could go on to their own rooms. This one girl that was drinking with us followed me asking if I would want to join her in her room. I was said I shouldn't due to all I drank and I probably wouldnt be able to make it back, while saying this i slipped a little bit and got caught by the wall.
At this point in time, she was trying to lead me to the upwards stairs as I keep telling her I shouldnt because I wouldnt be able to make it back down. She reassured that if not, I could sleep with her and before I could refuse one more time she picked me up and tossed my cruches aside. I felt so helpless as she carried me up to her room a floor above. I tried to fight back but she was bigger than I. I couldn't get away until she was finished. When I was able to make it off the bed, i crawled so fast to the stairs that I fell all the way down to my cruches. I didnt care about the pain, I just wanted to get away. I picked myself up and used the cruches to get back to my room trying to forget.
When I got back to campus I was trying to get over what happned and put it in my past. I was even joking about it with friends about the night. Common I mean who wouldnt want a girl taking advantage of you right?

2-4 who is a rapest/ sex offender
Mine: A sexual offender is someone who has sexually taken advantage of a person. This ranges from rape/ sexual assault in first/second degrees, to indecent exposure. Once the person is on the list they never come off it.
Or
sex offender n. generic term for all persons convicted of crimes involving sex, including rape, molestation, sexual harassment and pornography production or distribution. In mosst states convicted sex offenders are supposed to report to local police authorities, but many do not. (See: rape, molestation, sexual harassment, pornography)
Fictional story:
Scott Made grew up in a normal town. Throughout his academic life he was always a little better than the curve. He enjoyed everything the normal boy did, playing games, hanging out with friends, looking at and driving cars, he also had a fascination with photography. His family life also wasn't much different than others. Dad came home from work to have dinner that mom cooked. All his family trying to hard to give Scott the best life he could have.
Throughout college he had a few steady girlfriends, nothing to significant though. He enjoyed partying like everyone else but also worked hard academically. He is a business major wanting the American dream of getting rich quick. So he dropped everything that did not apply to his degree, including his photo hobby and car enthusiasm just to keep himself focused on his goal.
Scott graduated with honors and quickly landed a job at a bank as a manager in Baltimore. He found a nice little apartment in Westminster MD so he could commute. Quickly he found how hard life is after college, with all the bills and little time for himself. He started to think of ways to make more money on the side. Most jobs to make any decent wager ask for too much time as a second income. Then he realized he could get a job as a freelance photographer, but couldn't figure out what to shoot.
After months of brooding he came to the conclusion that he would put together a porn site because this would bring in the most money. Now he just needed models. He slowly started the site up, with agreements of a model. When the site has gotten more and more hits he was able to pay for more models. Soon enough his new website flourished and had a new steady income.
After a few months of this incredible income he got a strange request asking for child pornography. He hesitated and said no, but the requests kept coming and finally there was an offer that he really couldnt refuse. We he agreed he found himself caught in a FBI sting and forever more be on the sex offender list for what he agreed to do.

2-2 What is rape?
Rape in the state of MD is forced or unwanted penetration of a vagina by a penis. There is a number of other sexual activity that is under sexual violence. Those these can be just as horrible and traumatic they are not considered "rape."
These acts are not an act of sexual desire or any act of intimacy, but rather of a demonstration of power and control. Most of these acts are not done by strangers but by people the victim knows. This fact is hard for people to accept and what is even harder for people to fathom is that most of these are not violent.
Most of the time the victims feel ashamed and feel that it is their fault. They don't realize that this person betrayed them this way (typically) especially because of the stereotypes that our media puts out. The whole "you got what you deserved" and "you were asking for it with that outfit" and so on. When these women and men get sexually assaulted they feel this way because this is how our society tells them to.
Now it is especially hard for men to come forth about being raped. This is due to not much information out on it and people not believing them. People will say things like "dont tell me you didnt enjoy it" and so on. The next steps for Rape Crisis places I belive is reach out more to the gay and lesbian group and the men. Show that we support them as well because they also need our help just as much.
